What Do Tint Percentages Actually Mean?

Understanding Your Tint Options

When you see a tint percentage, it refers to Visible Light Transmission (VLT) which is the amount of light that passes through the film. A lower percentage means a darker tint and less light coming in, while a higher percentage means a lighter appearance with more visibility. For example, 5% is very dark and is often called limo tint, while 70% is nearly clear and allows most light through. Tennessee law requires front side windows to allow more than 35% light transmission, so front windows should allow at least 35% light transmission.

Everything You Want to Know About Window Tint

  • Is window tint legal in Tennessee?

    Tennessee has specific tint laws that govern how dark your windows can be. Front side windows must allow more than 35% light transmission, while rear side and back windows can go darker.   • How long does window tint take to install?

  • How long does tint take to cure?

During this period, you may notice slight haziness or small water bubbles, which is ompletely normal and will resolve on their own. We recommend waiting a few days before rolling down your windows.   • What is the difference between carbon and ceramic tint?

    Carbon film offers solid performance at a mid-range price, with moderate IR rejection and a clean neutral appearance that holds up over time. Ceramic film takes it a step further with up to 80% IR rejection and 99% + UV blockage, without interfering with phone signals, GPS, or toll passes. Ceramic is the top-tier choice for drivers who want maximum comfort and performance.

  • Will tint affect my defroster or rear camera?

    No. Our films are designed to work around existing defroster lines without damaging them, and rear camera functionality is maintained. Our ceramic film in particular is fully signal-compatible, meaning it will not interfere with GPS, radio, or mobile signals.
